A Call To Action and a warning:
If you live in North Carolina or know someone who does, this young man could use your support. He faces not just the three day school suspension (and really, who cares about that?) but the ding on his permanent record. Ordinarily, I’d say “who cares?“ about this as well, because nobody in the real world gives a damn about your permanent record, but the concern is that this will impact his chances of getting an athletic scholarship. I personally wouldn’t recommend attending any school where this incident would adversely affect his chances of getting a scholarship, but that’s a separate issue. The warning here is for every other state and every other school district, because if this kind of madness is allowed to occur without significant pushback from the community, it will continue. Do I really need to spell out just how Orwellian this incident is? He’s being penalized for wrongspeak just because it hurts some wokie’s wittle feewings. He’s also having his 1st Amendment rights trampled along the way. I’ve never done a CTA before and will only do them rarely, but this outrage needs to be slapped down, and slapped down hard.

Link to this post. As I said above, these memes & posts are popping up more and more frequently on X, and what that implies for the mood of the country ought to worry all of us. No one sane wants a bloody revolution, but I’m not seeing a lot of sanity, or appreciation for the consequences of their actions, coming from our Fearless Leaders these days.

The Senate version of this bill would scoop up cable providers, installers, landlords, basically any business with telecom equipment on site and make them cough whenever the Feds say to. Without a warrant, of course—unless it’s a member of Congress (yeah, the Senate’s not going to touch that one). Mitch McConnell supports the bill as is—that, in and of itself, should be enough reason to fight it tooth & nail. Here’s another reason: supposedly you’re safe if you don’t talk to suspicious foreign actors. Okay, who determines that? What about foreign-based text & telemarketer scams that pop up on your phone? And do you really trust the Alphabets and all their offshore branches (Ukrainian CIA bases, anyone?) not to fake up a scam just to cover themselves? Out best hope is to delay this beast until Friday, let FISA expire and start anew—but that’ll never happen. The Blob has too much dirt on Congress for it not to pass.
